SAILING, THE CHALLENGES OF SOUTH EAST ASIA - SwT 182 - LEAVING INDONESIA IN A HURRY

- In this episode Im wrapping up things in Tual making ready to sail towards Timor Este. My visa is again expiring and the crazy weather situations here is not good news for me. I have never ever felt so stressed before, being in such remote place and having so much to fix in such limited time.
My amazing indonesian friends are helping me cleaning my hull and the Immigration office in Tual are giving me the VIP service helping me to clear out on a sunday.
Just as much as I have fall in love with the culture and the people of Indonesia its also a dark side to it all, Its super challenging to be a sailor here, at least at the more remote corners of this amazing nation.
I meet Phil and Molly that has just bought a yacht in Darwin and have just started on their sailing adventure. Their bobstay snapped on the way to Tual, and was in a need of some tuning and check of the rigging after having the bobstay welded. I was happy to help and offcourse with the limited tools and resources did our best to make sure they could continue their sailing as safe as possible. With this weathers in this region the rigging needs to be in a perfect condition. Otherwise you will be in for some surprices.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a RUclips channel and not a RUclipsr. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.
Even though this is season 6 on RUclips I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
Thank you . From Canada
Hi, Molly and Phillip. Congrats on getting your own sailboat. Meeting Thomas was a godsend. He knows tricks of the trade many sailors find helpful. Thomas, thanks for sharing another countries people, beaches, markets, and the bureaucracy of sailing.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support.
I hope we all will be able to enjoy videos in the future from Molly and Philip
She knows how much work it is behind a channel as she already have been and still do edit videos for other channels. All the best

Thank you so much for even watching to the end🙏🏻 Only experienced viewers of my channel would use that phrase. All the best
Surprised that Molly have not made her own youtube channel yet as she has edited some of the best episodes of the best Expedition Drenched episodes.
Maybe that’s why they are hesitating? Molly for sure knows how much time and work that goes into this being experienced in editing for several big channels.
All the best

Thank you so much for your kind words, and for being here 🙏🏻
Thanks for sharing the real pressure you are under, from what I understand The limited Visa stay has forced you to sail in difficult conditions. I suspect you must have a safe passage or we would not see this video. Which is reassuring! SV Skoiern IV PS I was I'm impressed with your tip using the halyard! Thanks,
Thank you so much for being here and your kind comments. Yes both BE FREE and I are in good condition and safe. But it for sure have not been easy the last 6-7 months. And the sailing coming online on Monday I hope to never ever repeat.
The most exhausting passage ever.

Did that sweet pretty lady you used to sail with sell her boat and quit sailing, I think her name was Gina. I am glad you and your boat weathered the storm.
Thank you so much for your comment and for your questions. I believe it’s Kylie you are thinking about, and yes she is still sailing. We are very good friends and thanks to StarLink able to still stay in touch almost at a daily base.

Thanks you for sharing. The weather looks concerning... I assume those videos are not uploaded in real time. There is info on your weather maps... when was that?
Thank you so much for watching and for being here. Yes I’m a bit delayed with my videos due to lots of sailing and challenges lately.
Thankful for being safe and healthy with BE FREE in good shape after that sail your waiting to watch.
I hope to never experience something similar again, as it was an extremely hard sail.
All the best
Hi Thomas! Great channel. I'm planning to buy a monohull in the 50 ft size range. I'm encouraged to see you sailing yours single-handed. I plan to do most of my sailing in the SE Asia region...preferably with a first mate, but must be prepared for single-handing. Do you have any top priority tips for rigging the boat for single handing? I've got several years of sailing experience though nothing like yours. As a pilot and engineer, I am very safety and systems oriented and have tons of navigation experience. How good are the navigational charts for the Indonesian waters? What's your watchkeeping routine for sailing at night? I wish there was a way to communicate with you..I have so many questions. Do you have a website?
Thank you so much for being here and all your questions.
Apologize for late response but it’s almost impossible for me to keep up with all the comments and questions on all my platforms. I receive thousands of messages and emails every week, and it’s absolutely impossible for me to keep up being only one person. So unfortunately I’m time wise forced to prioritize my Patreons. For this I hope for your understanding and maybe even to see you on my Patreons page.
All the best ⛵️
Greetings from Russia)
Last year a friend bought a carbon dinghy from New Zealand, model OCT Tender 300. Nothing blows away, very light. I'm going to buy it myself and recommend it to you. Easy to google the seller by name
Seven feet under the keel)
Thank you so much for watching, and I’m totally agree with you in your thoughts about tender. OC makes great tenders, no question about it. And even fits perfectly in my garage. Only challenge is the fact it’s quite pricey at least for me.
All the best ⛵️
